The Academy Model at The DePaul Catholic School

The Academy Model groups students of similar age and promotes a common sense of identity and set of goals. Academies fosters collaboration among teachers for similarly aged students. This structure reflects our commitment to individualized instruction in small learning communities.

Pre-K through Kindergarten: St. Clare Academy 
Wonderment, Inquiry, and Foundations in the spirit of St. Clare of Assisi

In the Clarian Academy we recognize that each child is unique in the eyes of God.  In the spirit of St. Clare, we aim to provide a holistic education filled with wonderment and inquiry that will set the foundation for our smallest scholars to become life-long learners.

First and Second Grade: The Franciscan Academy
Peace, Justice, and Reconciliation in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi

In the Franciscan Academy we recognize each child as a gift from God. In the spirit of the Catholic faith and of St. Francis of Assisi we seek to immerse students in the values of peace, justice and reconciliation.  Utilizing an engaging curriculum, we are committed to helping each child achieve his/her academic, spiritual and social potential.

Third through Fifth Grade: The Marillac Academy
Character, Compassion, and Community in the spirit of St. Louise de Marillac

In the Marillac Academy we are committed to the vision of St. Louise de Marillac that each child can achieve their highest potential in mind, body, and spirit. The Academy works to expand the community of educators to include family, parishioners and neighbors.  We honor the compassionate vision of St. Louise de Marillac by encouraging and fostering service experiences throughout the year.

Sixth through Eighth Grade: The Vincentian Academy
Learning, Christian Leadership, and Service in the Spirit of St. Vincent de Paul

In the Vincentian Academy our mission is to assist families in the total educational development of their child in the Vincentian tradition of service and excellence.  We are committed to helping students reach their full potential spiritually, academically, and socially by requiring them to exhibit focus and determination. We are a community modeling Jesus Christ and are called to demonstrate discipline, responsibility, leadership, and the sharing of our God given gifts.

In 2013, our whole staff gathered and agreed to apply for a prestigious and innovative educational tool that would completely change the way learning happens at DePaul Catholic. Wilson Fundations

Wilson Fundations for K-2 is a phonological/phonemic awareness, phonics and spelling program for the general education classroom. Fundations is based upon the Wilson Reading System® principles and serves as a prevention program to help reduce reading and spelling failure.

Rather than completely replace core curriculum, Fundations provides research-validated strategies that complement existing, structured academic programs. A 30-40 minute daily Fundations lesson is incorporated into a lead teacher’s language arts classroom instruction. Because of this classrooms meet federal and state educational standards, but they have the added flexibility to serve the needs of all children.

Fundations lessons focus on carefully sequenced skills that include print knowledge, alphabet awareness, phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, decoding, vocabulary, fluency, and spelling. Critical thinking, speaking and listening skills are practiced during Story time activities.
